The Parity Principle Explored and Exploited by Sam Dalal

I have been enamored with this principle for the past 50 years, and some of my earliest “commercial ” creations were devised on the Parity Principle.

This manuscript attempts to explain and exploit the principle for “across-the-table” use to even a large stage demonstration, with an abundance of practical examples that you can just “print and perform”.

There are also many ideas and suggestions to enable you to customize the effects for your needs and performing preferences. While it would not be practical to perform more than one of these effects in a single show, once you understand the principle, you can easily adapt the same effect for a different presentation or with different results for the same audience.

I have attempted a sequential approach, outlining the possibilities with 3, 5, 7, 9, and even 25 “positions” or objects in row and matrix form. Depending on the occasion and the desired performing time, you can use routines as snappy or elaborate as you wish. Whatever your choice, you will find something here that fits the bill for a touch of “mystery” with little or no preparation other than the understanding of the principle and a minimum of advance preparation.

There are some novel presentations, like:

  • Divining one of three objects secretly selected by a spectator.
  • A Just Chance effect with 4 pennies and a $ 100.00 bill, where you are always left with the bill.
  • Guiding a spectator to a dream job, for a large stage effect.
  • A tossing game with the seven dwarves that leads you to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
  • Helping a spectator win the Lottery, from nine possible tickets, and dozens of possible choices, and many more …

In addition to the ideas and routines required to perform the effects detailed in this manuscript, I have also included the charts, illustrations and “instructions” for many of the routines in a ready “Print and Use” format. There is very little for you to do but present it and mystify.
